Our Programs
Founded in 2024, Lighthouse College in Ashtabula, Ohio is designed for those whom God has "not" called into full-time ministry, but who do need a normally authorized & accredited degree, to follow God's plan for their lives. It exists for those who want to pursue their degree in the context and security of a conservative Christian college environment, and vibrant local church setting. Lighthouse College is literally a ministry of (and under the authority of), the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Ashtabula, Ohio.

Our Programs
Our goal at Lighthouse College is to offer a world class educational experience. The Ohio Department of Higher Education has authorized our college with an initial Associates Degree program in General Studies / Humanities, and we will officially open our doors in the fall of 2026! We are thrilled with this option because whatever direction God is leading, this program allows everyone to begin by getting their prerequisites done, before moving on to their particular discipline. Also, we are close to being able to offer an Associates Degree in Medical Assisting, and are already working on additional Associates and Bachelors degrees in Criminal Justice, Engineering, Nursing, Biology (pre-med.), Business, and Computer Science.

God has abundantly blessed us and allowed Lighthouse College to lease a wonderful educational building from the Ashtabula Area City Schools that will meet all of our needs for several years. This facility has been completely remodeled ($1.8 million dollars), and is equipped with everything that we need, including a gymnasium and cafeteria. This facility is located in the very picturesque "harbor district" in Ashtabula, only one block from Bridge Street, and two blocks from one of our local libraries

Pastor Jones has a Bachelor’s degree in religious education. He has pastored for over forty years and is the author of one book. Pastor Jones believes so much in the power of religious education that he has authored, taught, and distributed religious educational materials (at least fifty different studies), for over thirty-five years.

Pastor Jones believes so much in the power of religious education that he has authored, taught, and distributed religious educational materials (at least fifty different studies), for over thirty-five years. He is also the founder, director, and primary instructor of the Lighthouse Ministry Institute. This is a three-year college level program, for men and women who are preparing for full-time ministry work. Pastor Jones has written all of the curriculum, taught most of the classes, and has been the primary administrator dealing with finances, grades, student issues the updating of materials, and more. He has taught and administered this college level program for eighteen years. In conjunction with this, Pastor Jones is also the founder, director, and primary instructor of the Lighthouse Laymen’s Institute. This is a one-year college level program, for men and women who are not planning to enter into full-time ministry work. As with the previous program, Pastor Jones has also written all of the curriculum, taught most of the classes, and has been the primary administrator dealing with finances, grades, student issues the updating of materials, and more for this institute as well. He has taught and administered this college level program nine times over the last twenty-five years.

Dr. Prussia’s qualifications and Christian testimony are breathtaking. From his time at the University of Georgia, and the Univ. of California, Davis, to lecturing / presenting in nineteen different countries, to authoring seven books, to working / teaching / presenting at many schools/colleges and universities in the Philippines and so much more, we believe he is uniquely and overwhelmingly qualified. When added together, Dr. Prussia has over twenty-eight years of college level experience in both teaching at different levels, as well as different administrative responsibilities, including graduate students, advisory committees, etc. Even after going to the Philippines, Dr. Prussia continued to lecture at many different universities in that country also.

Pastor Larger has a Bachelors and three different Masters Degrees. He has completed all of the work for his doctorate, and has only to complete his thesis project to be finished. Also, he is continuing in more graduate work beyond his doctorate at this time, as well (that would be five different degrees). Pastor Larger is the author o

Also, he is continuing in more graduate work beyond his doctorate at this time, as well (that would be five different degrees). Pastor Larger is the author of three different books and is currently pastoring in Indiana. Specifically, as far as college level experience both recent and ongoing), Pastor Larger has for three years, taught on-line courses, part-time, at The Crown College, in Powell, TN. Teaching these classes involves using normal syllabi, lecturing, grading, recording, and iinteracting with students who struggle. He understands both sides of the education process (student and instructor), and has a huge passion for education and continued learning.

Mr. Thornton comes to us directly from thirty-three years on the mission field in Rosario, Argentina, where he had a successful and multi-faceted ministry. He has his Master’s Degree in Biblical Studies and has also received training for counseling from Grace Fellowship International (over 380 hours of instruction, plus outside work)
Mr. Thornton comes to us directly from thirty-three years on the mission field in Rosario, Argentina, where he had a successful and multi-faceted ministry. He has his Master’s Degree in Biblical Studies and has also received training for counseling from Grace Fellowship International (over 380 hours of instruction, plus outside work). Mr. Thornton founded and directed the Baptist Bible College of Rosario. In addition to this, before going to Argentina, he pastored in Atwater, Ohio, and taught (as an adjunct professor) for two years at Massillon Baptist College. Mr. Thornton brings a wealth of experience to Lighthouse College and we believe that he will be a great addition to our staff.
